Family Information

Are SCA events family friendly?

The Society for Creative Anachronism is committed to having fun and safe environments where people of all ages and backgrounds can come together and learn. Many events have teen and youth activities hosted at them.

Although young children to young adults often have activities directed to them as well as many other regular activities they can participate in with adult supervision, the activities are not meant to replace parental supervision. Parents are still responsible for insuring their children are supervised.

Teen Activities

The Society for Creative Anachronism encourages lifelong learning and creativity among its members, and this includes our young adults. Teens and young adults are encouraged to learn and explore and adventure along with and beside the older members.

Many of the classes allow teens and young adults to attend and learn (and teach). Most class listings at events will state if there are age restrictions due to course material or safety concerns, but usually the young and young at heart learn together.

Teens are able to participate in target archery as well as thrown weapons.

Teens 16 and younger can participate in the Youth Combat system and 16 and 17 year olds can participate in the adult combat systems with parental permission.

Many teens enjoy participating in other activities like dance, singing, bardic arts and musical instruments.

Many of the larger events have teen activities set aside for the young adults to participate in.

Youth Activities

Many events have Youth Activities that include learning and fun. But children can also find out that they can be part of the Society for Creative Anachronism as much as the adults can.

Many times the younger members of our Kingdom can enter Arts and Science competitions to show off the crafts and skills they have learned as well.

The Youth Combat system allow the children to participate in the mayhem of battle with padded weapons and learn the chivalrous way to fight. Some kids get to go camping, but our kids get to participate in adventures for the whole family, camping with Kings and Queens and being part of a supportive culture that values learning, knowledge and creativity.
